New Year's Eve in Tihany (3 Nights)

Spend the last day of 2008 in Tihany, the pearl of Hungary! A four-day programme next to Lake Balaton, with plenty of food and drinks.

You can choose our modern, equipped and furnished apartments for 4+1 persons with two rooms, kitchenette, shower, or, 2+1 rooms, kitchenette and shower.

See the old year out in our village museum restaurant, join our party!

We offer this extrao

rdinary New Year's Eve programme to fellowship companies. You can taste the home-made Hungarian jelly-soup. We are going to fry down the fat to receive greaves—not buy them in the shops! You can also help in preparing the sausages in the furnace, and of course, you are going to need some good old Tihany red wine as digestive. We'll visit the wine cellars on a sleigh or a farm wagon—depends on the weather—and test all the wines and poteens of the manufacturers. On the last night of the year, we are going to have an unforgettable party In our village museum restaurant, which is not the first occasion in this kind, so believe us you will have enough pork and sausage to eat. We are also going to serve cabbage soup to prevent you from hangover. At sunrise you can walk or be taken to your lodgings. You are also free to choose to sleep at your dining table, we are going to heat the room to prevent you from catching cold.

Detailed program:

29.12.2008. (Monday)

Arrival at the apartments in Tihany in the afternoon, dinner in our cellar restaurant: jelly soup with all the necessary parts of the piglet to make it typical, traditional. We drink a home-made strong poteen to the piglet' and our guests' health. This will give the basis of the evening cheer. We also offer you plenty of wine in clay jugs.

30.12.2008. (Tuesday)

on this day you can have a traditional Hungarian Shepherd's breakfast on wooden plate, with a thick slice of bread, hot wine with spices, tea or farm milk. Don't try to find a cola here. You can find raspberry, elderberry, redcurrant syrup instead, for the children to fight their thirst. After this plenty and rather unhealthy breakfast we get on the farm wagons and, through the lakeside, we drive the horses to the wine cellars. You will admit as well, that they should never be out of programme. Here we are going to our best to get drunk as much as possible. You need not worry about getting back to the wagon—we are going to take care of you.

According to our experiences, at this point man usually gets hungry again. So we aim the village museum restaurant, and drive the horses there. Here you will be our assistance to prepare our cabbage lunch with smoked flitch, bones and trotters in the caldron. You can be sure to get suffice. You won't need a napkin either, you will surely clean your fingers as well with your tongue, as we say it here. And, as you may have already found it out, you will be offered plenty of wine, poteen, too.

31.12.2008. (Thursday)

On the last day of the year we offer you a Hungarian eggs breakfast with onion, and home-made loaf of bread. Then we give you the chance to choose your programme for the day. If you are lucky, the Inner Lake is frozen and you can go skating. Or, Hévíz is quite near where you can relax in the spa. You are also free to choose horse-riding.

But do not go too far, as we start our Sylvester party at seven p.m. You will find a piglet in wooden shell, grilled, home-made sausages, braised cabbage. After midnight we serve you cabbage soup in clay plates. Then and meanwhile beer, wine, poteen as much as you wish. The music is going to be played on cd, our orchestra is busy that day. We say hello to the new year with a glass of champagne, listening to the Hungarian national anthem. Then, we are going to have a party as long as we are able to be wake.

01.01.2009. (Friday)

As we know that folks like to sleep long after a night like that, we expect you at one p.m. to a dietary lunch. Our tradition gives the instructions to this as well: you must eat lentils to get rich in the new year, but you must not have any chicken because it takes away the luck from the house.

Leaving the lodgings at six p.m. the latest. You can stay one night longer if you choose to.

Our programme includes the following services:

29.12.2008.—dinner: one portion of jelly soup, 4 cls poteen, 0.5 litre of red wine, 0.5 litre of white wine

30.12.2008.—breakfast: ham, sausage, bacon, onion, pepper, tomato; hot wine with spices, coffee, tea, farm milk. Fruit syrup. Wine sampling at the cellars (whatever you wish) Dinner: cabbage with pork and knuckle, bread, poteen and wine. Syrups, tea, coffee.

31.12.2008.—breakfast: scrambled eggs with ham, sausage and onion, loaf of bread. Hot and cold drinks also available. Sylvester dinner: grilled piglet with braised cabbage, home-made sausage, potato garnishing, drink consumption without restraint (beer, wine, poteen, beverages), one glass of champagne at midnight, cabbage soup with bread, buffet table.

01.01.2009.—lunch in the new year: lentils soup, wooden plates shepherd style, tea, coffee, beverages.

You can prolong your stay in Tihany to as long as one week or ten days.
